  • Why is it necessary to clean the venting from my dryer to outside?

Answer provided by Joe - Owner & Sales

This venting can collect lint as it is passing thru. If you do not keep this venting clean, the lint can pose a fire threat. It also can provide a habitat for birds and small rodents! Thus, keeping it clean is very important!

  • How do I keep my clothes washer clean?

Answer provided by Dennis - Owner & Sales

Keeping the water lines clean in a clothes washer is very important. You can run a hot cycle with a cup of vinegar to flush the lines. Also, Silica carries a product called Afresh that is designed specifically to remove build up from your washer.

  • Is it ok to use fabric softner?

Answer provided by Joe - Owner & Sales

Silica does not recommend using liquid fabric softener because its main ingredient is animal fat. This fat can build up in your washer (and your clothes) and can create problems. An all natural alternative to liquid softener is vinegar. A 1/4 to 1/2 cup of vinegar can be added to the fabric softner dispenser in your wash machine. Then run the machine as usual with the softener feature enabled. The vinegar will act like fabric softener and there will not be any odor from the vinegar upon drying of your laundry!
